Austin Smiles Mission Trip February 2010
Austin Smiles, a volunteer organization created in 1987 by local Austin Plastic Surgeons, completed its 38th mission trip to El Salvador in February 2010.
On this past trip, our group consisted of plastic surgeons, nurses, techs, anesthesiologists, volunteers, and translators. We take all medical supplies and equipment.
Our group operated 4 days and completed 50 major surgical procedures.
The photos below are of a young lady we brought from El Salvador to Austin in 1997 to begin correcting complications from her initial surgical repairs. This surgery was too extensive to be done in El Salvador.
She and her mom came by the hospital in El Salvador to show us photos of her quinceanera. She is now almost 16 years old and quite an attractive young lady. Next year we will be able to do a touch-up on her lip area and a rhinoplasty to improve the function and cosmetic aspect of her nose.
Dr. Davis was quite pleased to be able to have a photo taken again with this young lady to compare to the one taken in 1997. Scroll down to see these remarkable photos.
Permanent Lip Enlargement
The Perma Lip Silicone Implant is a patented FDA cleared device designed for tissue enhancement. The implant is made of soft, solid silicone that is naturally contoured with a non-porous surface. For permanent lip enhancement, the appropriate diameter is determined during your consultation. The appropriate length is determined by measuring the commisure to commisure of each lip. This procedure is done in our office surgery area using local anesthesia to numb the lip area with a dental block.

Dr. Davis Goes on Austin Smiles Mission Trip To El Salvador
Dr Davis just returned from a medical mission in El Salvador. The mission group totaled 34 and included plastic surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses, operating room techs and volunteers. The military hospital in San Salvador hosted this week long surgery marathon. There were 46 major surgical cases done during this time which consisted mainly of congenital cleft deformities (cleft lip and cleft palate). Photos of patients and their early surgery results, their families and some staff members are included.
This was Dr. Davis’s 20th mission trip to El Salvador and his 23rd mission trip with Austin Smiles.
