Patients are advised to avoid smoking for two weeks prior to the breast lift procedure to promote faster healing. During the surgery, the doctor will make an incision around the nipples and down the bottom of the breast, and extra tissue and skin will be trimmed away. The rest will be tightened around the new, perkier curves of the breasts. Finally, the nipples will be repositioned higher on the breasts. The entire procedure lasts for two to three hours, but can take a bit longer if breast implants are used.
After breast lift surgery, you might experience swelling and bruising. These after-effects will diminish as the breasts heal, which usually occurs within two weeks. Other risks include loss of breast sensitivity and permanent scarring.
