Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty): Austin, Round Rock, Georgetown, Beyond

Our eyes are among the first places where the effects of aging begin to show. If your eyes look tired, droopy, or puffy underneath, you can rejuvenate them with eyelid surgery. Also known as blepharoplasty, this outpatient procedure leaves patients looking bright-eyed and refreshed. No longer perceived as old and tired-looking, many patients enjoy renewed self-esteem and improved social interactions after the surgery. At his practice in Austin, Dr. Davis offers eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) to patients from Austin, Round Rock, Georgetown, and other areas of Texas and beyond.

Most people who undergo eyelid surgery are 35 years of age or older. If simple genetics have given you droopy eyelids, you could be a candidate at a much younger age. As long as you're in generally good health, eyelid surgery is an option. Your pre-surgical consultation and testing will rule out any conditions that would keep you from being an ideal blepharoplasty candidate.

The Blepharoplasty Procedure

On the day of the procedure, you'll be sedated and have a local anesthetic applied. General anesthesia is also an option in some cases; ask your doctor which option is most appropriate for you. Then the surgeon will remove excess skin from the eyelids, lift and tighten them. The incisions are placed in the eyelid crease so that they're not readily noticeable.

If you're having lower eyelid surgery, the surgeon will remove the fat deposits that lead to bags under the eyes. The incision is usually placed along the lower eyelashes for subtlety. The muscles beneath the eye can be tightened if necessary, and excess skin is removed.

Some patients, particularly Asian patients, undergo blepharoplasty to create rounder eyes with more-defined eyelid creases. If you're considering Asian eyelid surgery, come in for a consultation to discuss your goals and expectations with your surgeon. The results of eyelid surgery are dramatic and permanent.

Recovering from Blepharoplasty

After this procedure you will keep your head elevated and use frozen peas to keep the swelling down and the discomfort to a minimum.
