BOTOX® Cosmetic is useful for treating minor wrinkles, and facelifts can eliminate severe wrinkles. But what if you just have a few moderate wrinkles that you want to diminish? If this is the case, injectable dermal fillers like Juvederm® and Radiesse® could be the answer.
Dermal fillers are substances which are injected directly into the fold of a wrinkle to plump it up and make it disappear. This results in smooth, younger-looking skin. Dermal fillers are especially popular treatments for nasolabial folds, the deep lines that run from the edges of the nose past the corners of the mouth and can also be used to plump the lips.

Juvederm® is an injectable filler made from hyaluronic acid in the form of a clear gel. It works by filling in deep lines in the face. Patients with allergies to animal products can safely undergo Juvederm® injections, because hyaluronic acid occurs naturally in the human body.
Radiesse® is another type of dermal filler used to correct deep lines around the nose and mouth. It is made from microparticles of calcium and phosphate ions suspended in a clear gel. Like Juvederm®, Radiesse® is not derived from animal products. Radiesse® is a powerful two-point treatment that fills in facial lines for several months, then stimulates natural collagen production to keep skin smooth and supple.
Injectable dermal fillers are administered under a local anesthetic. The doctor will examine your face to determine where injections are most needed. Then he will fill in the lines with the gel. The process usually takes 15 minutes or less.
The injectables will take full effect within one week, at which time you will notice a smoother, younger appearance. Some patients might experience pain, numbness, redness, or swelling at the injection sites. Temporary headaches and nausea have also been reported in a small number of women. We will offer you support throughout your recovery process and address any questions or concerns you have.
The results of Juvederm® injections last about six to eight months. Radiesse® injections are considered a semi-permanent treatment, with results that can last up to one year.
