BOTOX® Cosmetic was approved for cosmetic use in 2002, and since then it has taken cosmetic dermatology by storm. Millions of women have this treatment every three to six months to retain a smooth complexion. Treatment with BOTOX® Cosmetic

If you choose to be treated with BOTOX® Cosmetic, our doctor will make the process as comfortable as possible. First, your skin will be thoroughly cleansed. Then a topical anesthetic will be applied to numb your face. The doctor will inject a tiny amount of BOTOX® Cosmetic into your facial muscles, where it will act as a paralytic. Contrary to some people's belief, you can still form expressions with your face following BOTOX® injections. Your muscles will simply be prevented from pulling your skin into laugh or frown lines.

BOTOX® Cosmetic is affordable, and the recovery phase is short. The entire procedure takes less than 30 minutes. Afterward, some patients might experience redness or swelling at the injection sites. Others have mild body aches, though these pass quickly. Patients are advised to rest for two to four hours after the procedure.

The Effects of BOTOX® Cosmetic

The final effects of the BOTOX® injections will be visible within one to two days. Most of our Austin patients consider BOTOX® injections to be painless and the recovery phase even more so. Though the procedure is safe, it can very rarely cause drooping eyelids or eyebrows, or numbness at the injection site. These symptoms typically fade within a few days. Allergic reactions to BOTOX® Cosmetic are also rare, but can occur. Talk to your doctor about any other factors that would make you a risky candidate for this procedure, such as certain medications.

BOTOX® injections produce smooth, supple skin that lasts for three to six months. After that time, the injections will need to be repeated for ongoing results. BOTOX® injections can be combined with a laser skin resurfacing option for optimal facial rejuvenation.
