How to Firm Sagging Breasts

Breast ptosis (sagging) is a common cosmetic concern, and nearly everyone will experience some degree of sagging in their lifetime. Factors such as gravity, weight fluctuations, pregnancy, breastfeeding, and the natural aging process can all contribute to changes in breast position and projection. While breast drooping or sagging is both common and quite natural, many people are dissatisfied with these changes to their body. As a result, they seek out various remedies in the hopes of restoring a more youthful look. There are a number of products and exercise programs that claim to be able to counteract breast sagging. However, there is currently no non-surgical method of counteracting the underlying causes of sagging, which have to do with the unique composition of the breasts themselves.

Breasts are primarily composed of breast tissue, fat, ligaments, and tissue. As we age, the skin and ligaments become more lax, resulting in breast ptosis. Those with larger, more dense breasts in particular may notice a more prominent change in overall breast position and projection. Since larger breasts tend to weigh more, the surrounding tissue and skin is placed under more strain and is thus more susceptible to stretching. That said, even those with relatively small breasts will likely still experience some degree of drooping, as tissue and skin laxity are a natural part of the aging process.

Fortunately, our plastic surgeon in Austin—Dr. Steven Holzman—offers a number of options for those seeking to restore a more youthful, perky appearance to their breasts:
