Brow Lift (Forehead Lift)

As we age, the forehead can begin to droop, forming deep creases between the brows that may falsely create an angry or tired-looking appearance. While certain injectables such as BOTOX® Cosmetic and Dysport® can effectively diminish these aesthetic concerns for certain individuals, the results of these treatments are temporary and require continual touch-ups to maintain a lasting outcome. For those interested in a more enduring solution to aging of the forehead and brow region, brow lift surgery performed by Austin plastic surgeon Steven Holzman, MD may be an excellent option.

What Is a Brow Lift?

Brow lift surgery (also referred to as a forehead lift) can effectively release tension between the brows, alleviate drooping of the eyebrows and forehead skin, and dramatically reduce both vertical and horizontal wrinkles in the region for a more refreshed, rejuvenated appearance in the upper third of the face. In many cases, brow lift surgery is performed in conjunction with procedures such as blepharoplasty, facelift surgery, and non-surgical injectables for a more comprehensive facial enhancement.

Dr. Holzman is highly skilled in customizing forehead lift surgery to address his patients’ specific concerns while achieving incredibly natural-looking results. His intensive training, keen artistic eye, and meticulous surgical approach have combined to yield exceptional outcomes in facial rejuvenation over his years in practice, and he would be happy to help you attain the look you desire.

Who Is a Good Candidate for Brow Lift Surgery?

Good candidates for a brow lift typically include women and men who are bothered by one or more of the following cosmetic concerns:

Patients should also be in good general health and have realistic expectations for what can be achieved through forehead lift surgery. At the time of your consultation, Dr. Holzman will discuss all criteria for treatment, as well as thoroughly evaluate your unique needs and goals to determine if brow lift surgery or another aesthetic procedure would be right for you.

How Is Brow Lift Surgery Performed?

Dr. Holzman performs brow lift surgery using one of two possible techniques: orthoscopic or traditional brow lift. Orthoscopic brow lift requires only a few tiny incisions along the hairline through which specialized tools are inserted to carry out the surgical enhancements, eliminating the need for the traditional continuous incision along the hairline. In both versions of the procedure, dense muscle and connective tissue that have built up between the brows are removed to smooth and relax tight furrows. The forehead skin is also drawn upwards and excess is removed to restore youthful contours to the brow line.

What Should I Expect During Brow Lift Recovery?

Immediately following brow lift surgery, you can expect some degree of swelling, bruising, and tenderness throughout the treatment region, though these side effects are temporary and should resolve with time. Most patients do not experience significant pain, but any discomfort that does occur can generally be easily controlled with medication. While certain activities like vigorous exercise, heavy lifting, and contact sports will need to be avoided for at least a few weeks, you will likely be able to resume office-based work and/or other non-strenuous daily routines after approximately one week.

It is important to note that if additional procedures are performed simultaneously with your forehead lift, the recovery experience and timeline for healing may be different than described above. Based on your custom treatment plan, Dr. Holzman will be able to provide a more personalized description of what you can expect after brow lift surgery during your consultation.

How Long Does a Brow Lift Last?

The results of brow lift surgery usually last about 10–15 years—and potentially longer—before signs of aging develop to the extent that a touch-up treatment like injectables may be considered to prolong the outcome. That said, patients who received a forehead lift will always appear younger after these 10–15 years than they would if they had never undergone the procedure to begin with. Ultimately, elements such as skin care, sun exposure, smoking, genetics, and various other lifestyle and environmental factors will determine exactly how long your brow lift lasts.
