What Is Dysport®?
Dysport® is a refined form of botulinum toxin type A that has a slightly different protein structure than BOTOX® Cosmetic, making it a more suitable option for treating lines and creases between the eyebrows and throughout the forehead region for certain patients. Similar to BOTOX® Cosmetic, it works by temporarily relaxing the particular muscles causing wrinkles in the targeted area, effectively yielding a smoother, refreshed skin appearance.
What Are the Benefits of Dysport®?
Dysport®, like most neurotoxin injectables, is primarily indicated for the treatment of facial lines and wrinkles. Due to its unique composition, it is often used to address larger areas of the face, such as the forehead. As a non-surgical treatment, Dysport® injections typically require significantly less downtime and entail fewer possible side effects than surgical alternatives—such as a facelift or brow lift.
For those interested in preventative wrinkle treatments—sometimes called “prejuvenation”—Dysport® is often an ideal choice due to its ability to relax the facial muscles. By reducing muscular movement and tension in the face, Dysport® can prevent the formation of new wrinkles and the deepening of existing wrinkles.
What Is the Dysport® Procedure Like?
Dr. Holzman is a skilled and experienced injector, and he customizes each treatment to the individual. On average, Dysport® injections take less than 30 minutes, although this can vary based on the number of areas being treated and the number of units being injected. The injection(s) are administered using a very fine needle. As needed, a topical numbing agent can be applied to help relieve discomfort, although most patients report that the procedure is quite tolerable.
Following Dysport® treatment, most patients are able to resume regular activities immediately. That said, more strenuous activities—such as exercise—should be avoided for at least four to six hours. It is also recommended that patients do not lay down for at least the first few hours after receiving neurotoxin injections to avoid dispersing the product.
How Long Do Dysport® Results Last?
The results of Dysport® should begin to become apparent within the first few days after treatment, with the full effects becoming visible after two weeks and lasting for approximately three to four months. At this point, re-treatment may be desired to prolong the rejuvenative effects.
