What Is Gynecomastia?

Gynecomastia is a condition that affects about 20 percent of men and presents with an excess of glandular and fatty tissue. The exact cause of gynecomastia is unknown. I have a great deal of experience treating gynecomastia in its many forms to give the chest a smoother, more masculine appearance.

Although the condition can be frustrating or embarrassing, many men may be unaware that they have gynecomastia. Male breast reduction can reverse symptoms such as excess breast tissue, a “swollen” appearance to the chest, or a chest that is disproportionately large for the body’s frame. There are no non-surgical methods that can effectively treat gynecomastia. Treatment  includes the surgical excision of excess tissues in conjunction with liposuction to achieve long-lasting results.

Even though gynecomastia can involve an abundance of fatty tissue around the breasts, exercise alone cannot treat this condition. However, I still encourage patients struggling with gynecomastia to exercise and maintain a healthy weight. Patients who regularly exercise often see greater muscle definition and maximize the outcome of their surgery.

Gynecomastia presents itself in a number of different forms and can arise from a variety of causes. I have performed this surgery on hundreds of patients; however, I do not believe that skill and experience alone can achieve optimal results. It takes not only experience with hundreds of patients, but also an artistic approach to the male chest to create a natural contour that is aesthetically pleasing.
